The Mayne Tigers and Sandgate Hawks came together yesterday for the annual Anzac Day Shield game at the Den. The Hawks went down to the Tigers last year and were desperate to gain the honours this year on this important day on the calendar. After a moving ceremony the game kicked off under gloomy skies with the rain persisting at intervals making for greasy conditions. The next game for the Tigers in Round 3 is a very important day on the Australian calendar as it is in the football community. In 2025 Season the Sandgate Hawks were promoted to QFA Division 1. As a consequence of this development, the Tigers and the Hawks agreed to play an annual Anzac Day game as traditional rivals from days gone by. The Hart Sport QFA Division 1 kicked off yesterday with round one for the Tigers taking on the Springwood Pumas at the Den on a very hot day for football.
