Vale Beryl Shaw

The Mayne Football Club would like to acknowledge the passing of one of their oldest and dearest Hall of Fame Members in Beryl Shaw who passed away this morning surrounded by her close family. Beryl was 95 years young having lived a full and fun filled life. She celebrated her 95^th birthday with a large group of family and friends just five months ago to the day.

Beryl played a key role at the Tigers for many years through the 70’s and 80’s in the areas of fundraising, Junior and Ladies committees and canteen management and was acknowledged for her tremendous contributions with a Life Membership of the Mayne Juniors. She was awarded Hall of Fame Membership in 2024 as part of the Tigers Centenary celebrations.

In conjunction with her much loved husband Dudley, the two of them were a dynamic couple who played a huge part in the lives of so many Tigers over several decades. Their two sons Trevor and Craig both played their way through the club and each achieved premierships at Junior and Senior level. Trevor was one of the few Tigers to play in all three of the Reserves three peat premierships in 1975, 1976 and 1977 and was also a member of the Tigers 1982 QAFL Premiership team coached by Mick Nolan. Craig was a member of the 1975 Reserves Premiership team and also the 1982 Banyo Bloods Premiership in a very successful career with Beryl and Dudley supporting the boys all the way.

It was very much a family affair with daughters Gayle, Heather and Cathy all joining in the fun in all sorts of roles before it was possible for girls to play. They would have been sure to play had the chance been possible.

Many Tigers of the 1970’s will particularly remember the hospitality at the Shaw residences in Newstead and later at Hendra where many a party or fundraiser was held and enjoyed. The Hendra residence was a “do drop in” house with the welcome sign always out for all their friends.

Beryl was always very pleased to come along to the Juniors Trophy Day and Break Up for as long as she was able and particularly enjoyed the 2024 Centenary Hall of Fame Night where she was able to catch up with so many of the Committees, Players and Friends from her and Dudley’s era with the club.

The Mayne Football Club extends its warmest sympathy to Trevor, Craig, Gayle, Heather and Cathy and the extended Shaw family as well as all their friends at this saddest of times.
