Zac Quin goes back to back

The Mayne Tigers 2026 Season and Year culminated last night with the Annual Presentation Night at Tattersalls in the City in another premiere event.

The night kicked off with a stirring address by Club President Campbell Shaw as he detailed all the many wonderful moments of 2026 including recognising the two grand final appearances and senior premiership. He also did a roll call of all the many people that made the year a success from the Coaches and Support staff to the Committee and the many many people who stepped up during the year in the less visible but incredibly important roles.

The agenda moved into Volunteer Awards, Milestones, a new Hall of Fame inductee and Life Member before the team awards to the Women’s team Awards presented by Gus Shaw and Kyle Henry, Thirds Awards presented by Jake Magill, Reserve Grade by Daniel Schmidt and Haydn Petersen culminating in the Senior Awards and Club Champion.

Senior Head Coach Jack Gartlan gave a comprehensive roundup of the successful year which led to their premiership. He was very keen to have everyone understand that it was the sum of all the many parts with  the entire playing group contributing to keep the season ticking along. It wasn’t as easy as it may have seemed to the outside world with injury challenges and terrific support from the Reserves to keep the season on track.

He was particularly pleased with the maturity of the group taking selection decisions in the right manner and stepping up to perform whatever role was required to support the teams.

Zac Quin backed up his 2025 performance to win the Keith Beavis Club Champion Trophy again in emphatic fashion to be twenty one votes ahead of the runner despite missing five games for the season. This is his third Club Champion trophy and at just twenty five years of age he could quite possibly challenge the record holder Jack Collings who currently sits on a remarkable five wins.

In addition to winning this award as a forward and some time midfielder he also kicked sixty two goals in an extraordinary effort.

The Tigers Club Champion record holder Jack Collings seems to not be showing any signs of slowing up just yet. While he might be the Tigers most senior player at thirty six, he is playing as good a brand of football as ever. Jack was voted Runner Up Best and Fairest and awarded the Andrew Housego Trophy for his impressive season. He is the most prepared player in the team and arguably one of the most valuable with his legendary on field presence credited with keeping the Tigers on track in the difficult moments. After going into back spasm in the semi final, all looked lost but true to form he managed his injury to be prepared for the Grand Final and was judged as one of the best on the day playing in an unfamiliar role on the wing. He has already committed to 2027 in an important development for the squad.

While he is one of the youngsters in the group at just twenty one, Ryan Doolan has already accumulated a significant record for the Tigers with three premierships and now two League Leading Goal Kicking Awards. He was pipped by just one vote by Jack Collings for the Runner Up Best and Fairest and was awarded the Third Best Trophy. He was also awarded the Mick Nolan Players Player Award by his peers for the second year in succession. He is also a very mature Club Co-Captain.

The Tigers Rising Star Award has been awarded as part of the prestigious Everton Award with a roll call of Tiger stars having won this Trophy since it was first awarded back in 2005. It is also a record of Mayne and Everton Juniors who have made the Tigers so successful this century. These include the two Quin brothers, Ryan Doolan, Daniel Schmidt, Digby Morison, Jasper Craven, Zac McLean and Duncan McCabe from this year’s premiership team It now includes former Everton Junior Alex Craigie as a very well deserved recipient. Alex was one of of only three players to play every senior game this season.

Jamie Ivers was awarded Best in Finals for his herculean effort across the two games and no doubt for his supreme performance across the season holding down at least eighty percent of the ruck work.

Duncan McCabe was awarded the Most Consistent for his stellar season in the midfield and at just twenty one, he has a very big future at the Tigers.

Digby Morison was awarded the Best Team Player as he has performed numerous roles at either end of the ground and across the middle as a wingman who goes forward to kick goals.

Nick Galvin received the Coaches Award for his selfless efforts all year as he plays the support role to the powerhouse forward combination. Nick kicked a very handy twenty one goals and set up numerous others over a very successful season.

The Senior team will look to do it all over again in 2027 with the very talented Coaching Group of Jack Gartlan, Jeremy Watts, Tony Lynn and Sean Doolan all signing on again.

The playing group is almost all committed to 2027 and we can’t wait to see them fly the Tiger colours again next year.

In other major awards, Tom Eccleston won the Reserves Graham Walters Best and Fairest, Dakodah Cott won the Glenda Barber Women's Best and Fairest, Logan Brown won the John Laing Thirds Best and Fairest and Marty Puncken was awarded the Jack Kennedy Best Club Person. Jack Gartlan was made a Life Member and Ryan Doolan was inducted in the Hall of Fame.
