Mayne Football Club

Mayne AFC

A well deserved century for Scott Forrester

One of the Mayne Tigers most loved young men, Scott Forrester, will play his 100th Reserve Grade game this weekend in a testimony to loyalty and persistence against all odds.

Affectionately known as Scotty or Scoot, this former Mayne Junior exemplifies what it is to be a genuine club person. He joined the Tigers back in 1998 as an Auskicker, going on to play over 150 junior games before graduating to the Mayne Colts and the Senior club.

He made his debut in the Reserve Grade on the 18th June 2011 while still a Colts player when the seconds were struggling for numbers and has been a critical member of the Tigers playing group and volunteers ever since.

While he saw the tough times early in his career, Scott was also in the first wave of the club’s resurgence and success as the Co-Captain of the 2014 Reserve Grade Premiership. It was the beginning of a stellar era for the Tigers with the Reserve Grade playing in every finals series since then including nine grand finals and seven premierships.

Unfortunately for Scott, he has struggled terribly with injury ruling him out for the 2015 season and then with a debilitating illness taking hold from 2017 and over the intervening years affecting his kidneys which has limited his ability to achieve the level of fitness to play at the standard of football he was previously capable.

Despite this condition and a run of various injuries, he has remained remarkably positive and continued to enjoy being an integral part of the playing group, the club hierarchy and the club social scene to the fullest extent of his ability. He has played as frequently as his health has permitted and also stepped up to perform assistant coaching roles for the Reserves and Third Grade as well as be a consistent volunteer for all the senior teams, running water and performing the team runner’s role. He is also a valuable member of the Tiger’s Management Committee providing his construction expertise to the Facilities group.

Everyone and anyone involved with the club over the last twenty years will bear testament to the incredible person that Scott is and how he has been such a positive influence to be around. He has the most incredible smile, cheeky sense of humour and genuine caring nature that has touched so many people over his time with the Tigers.

Scott and his wife Katie welcomed their first child Freddie earlier this year as part of the Tigers 2025 baby boom and everyone in Tigerland will be looking to see how this next generation Tiger cub takes on the world. Scott is grateful that he has been with Katie from the beginning of when his illness took hold and they been able to share and battle his condition together. They are now both looking forward to seeing Freddie playing for the Tigers in a few years time.

Scott acknowledges how fortunate he has been to enjoy the comradeship of so many people over the length of time he has been a Tiger and how the club has been a constant in his life to date. He also recognises that he was fortunate to have great mentors like Luke Ferguson and Dean Hartley who have helped him with his football and life away from the game.

In addition to his 100 games for the Reserve Grade, Scott has also played 29 games for the Third Grade in an incredible record of persistence over adversity.

The Mayne Football Club wishes Scott all the very best for his 100th game this weekend and for many many more.
