Jack Coghlan - Looks small, plays big

One of the Tigers most talented young men in Jack Coghlan will play his 100th senior game for the club this Saturday.

Cogsy as he is affectionately known came to the Tigers for the beginning of the 2016 season fresh off the family farm in Victoria to move in with family friends, Danny and Kim Craven, and to make his way in the world. The Cravens and the Coghlan families were tied together from the days of Danny Craven and Frank Coghlan playing together at St Kilda. A fair pedigree for the young Jack to follow in with Frank playing over 100 games for the Saints and being a Michelson Medal winner in the Bendigo League. Danny Craven was the Tigers Football Director and Co-Coach of the 2016 senior team so he was pretty pleased with his new recruit at the time.

Cogsy made an immediate impact playing on the wing for the Tigers with his room mate Jasper Craven on the other wing. It was a great initiation to senior football for the eighteen year old Jack Coghlan playing in a premiership team in his first year of senior footy. He was playing with an experienced group who were coming off two premierships in 2014 and 2015.

After this great start he came under the spotlight of clubs in the NEAFL and he went on to play a couple of seasons with the Aspley Hornets before returning to the Tigers to be a mainstay and leader of the senior group. He once again dominated the wing position for the Tigers helping to lead the club to their Centenary Premiership in 2024 and reprising the role again in 2025 to now be a triple premiership player for the club.

He might be small in stature, but he is famously courageous, has pace to burn and excellent skills making him one of the most damaging players in the competition. In his ninety nine games for the Tigers to date he has also kicked fourty five goals off the wing.

This milestone has been a while in the making with his time playing at a higher level slowing the process, but there has also been some setbacks through injury along the way as well, perhaps a by product of his courage for the contest. It was expected that this day might have been much earlier this season but a significant injury early in the 2026 rounds postponed things. He has also taken the wonderful step in getting married to his long term partner Lucy this year which has made 2026 even more special.

Cogsy is one of the club favourites with his effervescent smile always on show and his keen interest in everyone at all levels of the club. He will be sure to receive plenty of goodwill and support this Saturday as he runs out against the UQ Red Lions.

The Mayne Football Club congratulates Jack on this important milestone and looks forward to many more.

The following Coaches and Team mates have added their testimonials in recognition of the impact that Cogsy has had on them while playing for the Tigers.

Congratulations Cogsy on 100 senior games. I've been lucky enough to coach Jack over the last few years and what stands out is the quality of the person as much as the player. He is reliable, selfless and always willing to do whatever is needed for the team. Whether he's had a big day or a quiet one, his attitude never changes. Reaching 100 senior games is a significant milestone and a reflection of the commitment he's shown to the Tigers over a long period. Well-deserved and hopefully there's plenty more to come.

Jackycogs the man with the “Fred Flintstone feet”!!!

Enjoyed being part of the journey mate, the energy u bring on & off the ground is your hallmark , so be proud of the 100 game achievement and your little slice of culture & history in it 💪

Enjoy the day Jackyboy!!

Jacky Cogs! What a journey from the wide eyed country boy to a married man living in a castle in Windsor. His first night out with the Tiges boys in late 2015 as an 18 year old is remembered well by all involved - starting at the infamous Annie Street share house and ending at the Caxton after a Taylor Swift concert at Suncorp. Cogs didn't provide much that night, and nothing much has changed on that front. But Cogs has made a massive contribution on field and culturally to the Tigers - 3 flags, leadership positions, top 5 finishes in the best and fairest.  He is always the first to welcome new players to the club and is the kind of bloke who can be your best mate after one session. Love having him out there for the mighty Tigers!

Congrats on a great career so far Cogsy!

Congratulations Cogs on an awesome milestone. Someone at the footy club that I have always admired and looked up to as a great professional, motivator, and leader by example. It has been a pleasure to get to play with you in my time at the Tigers. You are a star on the field that you are guaranteed to get 110% out of regardless of the difficulty of the game or opposition. Hard at it, clean, skilful and a hard runner, a nightmare matchup for any other winger in the competition at the moment. Looking forward to celebrating this achievement with you on the weekend and thank you for all that you've done for me as a footballer in your time at the club.

Congrats Cogsy!

Cogs is quietly one of the toughest blokes I've played with. Never complains, never slows down. On and off the field he gives 100% for his teammates, and that effort always gives us a massive boost. When I think of Cogs, first I see a friendly face that has a knack for spinning a positive on anything, then I picture him fearlessly flying into a ruckman twice his size to break up a mark and collect a crucial turnover. Keep flying, weapon.

Congrats Cogs on 100 games for the club including 3x Tiger flags. That is an elite return! I’ve played with Cogs the last 6 seasons and over that time I’ve seen him taped up, battered or bruised more often than not - he just goes so hard at it. Whether it’s in the air, or zipping around the midfield Cogs is incredibly dynamic and a player opposition struggle to answer for. More over, Cogs is just a ripping bloke, electric at club events and a barometer at training. Can’t wait to run out with you the rest of the season and hopefully make that 4x Tigers flags.

Congratulations Cogs! Awesome achievement, particularly considering some of the injuries you've had along the way. Freakishly good at footy, and a top bloke to have around.

It's been an absolute pleasure to be able to play with Cogsy over the years. He's without a doubt one of the craftiest and toughest players I've played with that will put his body on the line week in week out, even despite pending wedding commitments… More importantly, he's a genuinely ripper bloke, a great mate, and a fellow Saints supporter. Congrats on 100 games mate, hope you have an absolute ripper and keen for the games to come. Let's just see if you can keep up the pace off field post-game as well.

Who would have thought - the man with the glass jaw would play 100 at the tiges! Awesome to play alongside  Jack in his debut game in 2016 and now back at Mayne for his 100th. It has been a great footy journey including premierships, rep sides and breaking a cheekbone the week before your own wedding. Whilst one of the smallest on the field, Jack plays like a tall, often flying for unsuccessful hangers. His run and dash on the wing lifts the team’s energy every week. He is a great leader within our squad and is a highly respected team mate. Have loved running out on the field this year with one of my best mates.

Congrats on the milestone dogga!

Jasper Craven

Congrats cogs on bringing up the ton! 10 years after your first flag at the club and now going for a 4th shows what a legend of the tiges you are. Nothing better on game day then watching cogs tear up and down the wing all day and he never fails to deliver what we need. Great bloke to have around the club and one of the great performers come the end of the year!

Jeez I’ve loved playin with Jacky Coghlan. A tough, skillful and competitive player.

Going for a run with Cogs is always a humbling experience. You always think you’re running at a decent pace until Cogs shows up for the first pre-season session. The k’s this man can put on the track is ridiculous.

This, coupled with the toughness and laser skills makes for one hell of a footballer.

To come through some of your injuries mate and get to 100 games is a testament to your character. Browny’s famous saying ‘I don’t run on me face’ rings true. Well done mate.

Big love from Barbz

Jacky Cog! From the reserved country boy hailing from Bridgewater Park who has since flourished into a chatty and cheeky city slicker - I think it’s fair to say that the Mayne Tigers has played a very important role in shaping the man you are today!

To notch 100 games for the club is testament to your loyalty, and love for the Black and Gold! (And you’ve filled the trophy cabinet along the way)

Some of my favourite memories on the track have been alongside you brother, and I hope there’s still a few more to come!

Remember to look after that glass jaw of yours.

Eat ‘em alive this weekend, Dogga!!

Love you lots

Congratulations Cogs on 100 of the very best for the Tigers! A milestone that would have been brought up much earlier if it weren’t for some very serious injuries that he has shown great resilience to come back from. I still remember Cogs’ first day at the club; a raw 18 year old that could run all day with elite skills. He has been an integral part of 3 premierships and has performed so consistently on the Big Stage. It’s been a pleasure playing along side you as a team mate, off the field as a mate & joint members of Mayne’s Mozzie Squad! Go well on Saturday mate, this is the time of the year where you shine!
