Another milestone for Danny Evans

One of the most successful players of the modern era at the Tigers, Danny Evans will play his 150th Reserve Grade game this Saturday at Hinterland in yet another example of not only his consistent ability and loyalty, but also his resilience and endurance.

As a nineteen year old, it seemed unlikely that he would continue with his footy even though it was clear to his coaches that he was a very capable and talented player. It is well known now that encouragement and guidance from his older brother Matthew set him on an incredible path and career with the Tigers.

Over the course of his journey to this new milestone he has accumulated an incredible amount of accolades and silverware along the way. He is a six time winner of the Graham Walters Best and Fairest for the Reserve Grade as well as being chosen by his peers for the Peter Ives Player’s Player Award on three occasions.

He has consistently been elected in the Reserve Grade leadership group including Captain on numerous occasions over his fifteen year career. He has also been a member of four Reserve Grade Premiership teams in 2014, 2015, 2019 and 2020 and most recently coached the Reserves to a Premiership in 2024.

If not for injury he could have played in the 2016 and 2024 Reserve Grade premiership teams as well. In addition to this 150 games with the twos, he has also played 69 Senior games for the club which meant he was ineligible in 2023 to play in the Reserve Grade premiership in that year after playing the full season in the higher grade. It is a truly remarkable effort to have played almost 220 games as a senior player for the club which puts him in rare air.

It is reasonable to consider that had he played in another era when the club was not as successful, he would surely have played more senior games for the club.

He has played his whole career in the centre, playing a traditional pivot role whereby he has been a master a reading the play and dominating the middle of the ground. He has kicked 70 goals along the way for the Reserves in further proof of his dominance at this level.

He is the current 2025 Reserve Grade Coach and is doing his best to steer the team to yet another finals campaign.

The very good news for the Tigers is that he has no desire to stop now as he is still enjoying his footy as much as he ever has and feels he still has plenty to contribute.

Danny has been recognised as a Mayne Football Club Hall of Fame Member for his remarkable efforts for the Tigers.

The Mayne Football Club wishes Danny all the best for his 150th game and for many more in the years to come.
