Evergreen Mayne Tiger Corey Massingham racks up another big milestone this Saturday when he runs out for the Reserves in his 100th game.
A Mayne Tigers Life Member and Hall of Famer, Corey has achieved a remarkable catalogue of accolades for the club since he first donned the black and gold way back in 2005 as a raw but very talented sixteen year old.
He has played 168 senior games while kicking 136 goals at that level and now adds 100 Reserves games to that tally with 201 goals including 3 in Round 1 this year. He has also played 9 games for the Thirds and shows no sign of slowing up yet.
Over the course of this two decade journey he has contributed in so many outstanding ways to make the Tigers so successful over this period.
He won the inaugural Mick Nolan Medal on Reunion Day in 2009 starting an iconic club tradition and continued on to play in the Tigers first senior premiership in 32 years when he was deservingly part of the drought breaking game in 2014. He played in the 2015 Reserves premiership and was an assistant coach of the 2016 Reserves premiership when he was unable to play due to a significant knee injury. A terrific club person he also coached the Mayne Under 15’s to a premiership in that same year.
He returned to playing in 2017 to commence his incredible work with the Reserves. In addition to being a leader for this group, he had a dynamic season winning the Graham Walters Best and Fairest Trophy as well as the Peter Ives Players Player Trophy and was also the League Leading Goal Kicker with 64 goals.
After being a key member of the 2019 Reserves Premiership team, Corey volunteered to take the reigns of the team taking a very young Tigers outfit to another Premiership in 2020 as a playing coach. He coached the young Tigers to the 2021 Grand Final finishing up a very credible runner up.
He has played on in support of his great mate Danny Evans who took over from him as the Reserves played in Grand Finals in 2022, 2023 and 2024. The team won the 2023 and 2024 Premierships, but Corey missed the 2023 game due to injury. He was a very proud member of the Centenary Reserves Premiership in 2024.
Corey has been a wonderful leader and mentor for many young Tigers at Senior and Junior Level and also a willing volunteer for the club. He is now only the second player to achieve the 100 game milestone in Seniors and Reserves this century with Jake Magill being the first. After this game he will have played 277 games for the club for his efforts across the three grades.
We thank Corey for his incredible efforts for the Tigers and wish him well for this milestone game and for many more.
