Tigers too good for struggling Blues

The Tigers travelled to Hinterland yesterday to take on the Blues who have had a tough start to their season playing last year’s top three teams. They were very competitive against the Springwood Pumas and worked hard against the UQ Red Lions in the last two weeks so there was some likelihood of them giving the Tigers a tough contest on their home deck for their third game.
The Blues however have had a difficult off season losing a number of their prime movers including Captain Tom Wishnat who has won the Duncanson League Medal for the last two seasons.
The Tigers are running hot having started the season with a win over last year’s grand finalists, the Springwood Pumas and last week the Sandgate Hawks by a significant margin.
Despite this, nothing could have foreseen the avalanche that was to happen yesterday to see the Tigers score the club’s second highest score in the club’s long history. It would also turn out to be the second score in excess of 200 points in two weeks.
The Tigers burst out of the blocks to kick nine goals while the Blues could not trouble the scorer at the other end despite their best efforts.
The Tigers young brigade feasted on the control provided by their ruck division with Jamie Ivers dominant giving Duncan McCabe every opportunity to show his wares as he ran riot all day.
The Tigers back six were impenetrable with Zac Puncken inserting himself into the attack at every chance to give his team a slingshot return out of defence while another former Everton Junior, Rhys Syrett has secured his senior spot and be in the Tigers best.
The Tigers had winners everywhere as they dominated possession and field position all day to record a massive score.
The Tigers forward line ran rampant with the three experienced and dominant forwards in Ryan Doolan, Zac Quin and Zac McLean kicking twenty eight of the Tigers forty one goals between them. Doolan kicked twelve while the two Zac’s kicked eight apiece as they shared it around as well.
They were well supported by Nick Galvin who is very clever around the contest setting up his bigger names along with the dynamic Lous Quin who attacks the contest with impunity.
The Tigers had thirteen goal kickers with debutant Pat Glass getting his first goal in his first game at the higher level. He has been patiently waiting for this chance accumulating an impressive record at Reserves level.
The Craven brothers enjoyed playing together kicking two goals each and wreaking havoc while they were at it.
The Tigers reached triple figures before half time but then accelerated the pain with a thirteen goal third term.
The Blues can be congratulated for not giving in at any time as they were able to kick their three goals in the last term.
The Blues have been very good over recent seasons since being promoted from Division 2. They have troubled all teams and have been in contention at the end of the season so it is hoped that they can recapture some of their usual star power over the next few weeks and be a force in the competition again.
The Tigers will take on the Moreton Bay Lions at Red Rooster Park at the Moreton Bay Sports Complex.
