The Mayne Football Club recognises the passing of one of their much loved Life and Hall of Fame Members, Grace Bradforde, who passed away last Saturday at the Whellers Gardens Retirement Village,
Grace was 93 years young having been living independently at her Chermside Unit until a few months ago when a fall meant it was time to move into a caring environment.
Grace will be remembered fondly by many older Mayne Tigers who were part of the club particularly through the 1960’s and 1970’s. Grace and her late husband Herb were stalwart volunteers of the Tigers through this period volunteering in numerous roles. Grace would be involved with the canteen and fundraising while Herb was timekeeping and managing teams.
All this was in support of their son John who played for the Tigers from Under 10’s until he was 29. John was a multiple Reserve Grade Premiership player in the 1970’s going on to serve on the Committee in the Juniors as well as coach numerous junior teams over many years. Herb was awarded Life Membership of the Seniors while John is a Life Member of the Juniors. Both are Hall of Fame Members as well.
Older supporters will famously recall Grace being a very vocal supporter with Tessie Blacker and Ella Cummins in the forward pocket at Windsor Park, especially during the times that her son John was playing.
Grace attended a Mayne Tigers Reunion Day a few years ago and was still sharp as a button enjoying plenty of banter with all of her friends and extended Tiger family.
The Mayne Football Club wishes to pass on their collective sympathy to Grace's family, including John and his wife Val and their children Matthew and Melanie and their respective children at this sad time.
