The Mayne Tigers would like to acknowledge the passing of premiership player Ron Moylan who passed away recently at his home in Thailand.
Ron joined the Tigers in 1973 following the appointment of David Cearns to be the motivator helping the team to pull off a remarkable premiership against the Sandgate Hawks.
Ron was a talented, fast and strong half-forward flanker with a keen eye for goal. He played 12 games for Collingwood across the 1968-69 seasons, kicking nine goals, as well as playing a further 34 games (for 42 goals) in the reserves.
Ron was born and grew up in West Heidelberg and went to Victoria Park in 1968 after a couple of very successful seasons with West Ivanhoe CYMS. He managed nine senior games in his debut season and was also named the Club’s Best Local Recruit.
However, he found opportunities harder to come by after that and left the Pies midway through the 1970 season after managing only three further senior games. He later played with Tongala, Wagga Wagga and VFA club Preston before coming to Queensland to join the Mayne Tigers.
A teacher by profession and blessed with a lively and engaging personality, Ron moved to the Gold Coast and spent much of his life pursuing his great love, travel. He travelled widely, taught overseas and worked in a number of different jobs, including managing the entertainment on cruise ships.
Ron was still regularly in touch with his Mayne Premiership team mates who all enjoy many very fond memories of him and will miss him dearly.
The Mayne Football Club would like to send their deepest condolences to Ron’s daughter Kerry, his brother Gary, sisters Janet and Lorraine and his four grandchildren.
